身の回りにある第三者の手による文章（英単語帳や扇風機の説明書、ピアノの教本など）を収集し、それらに記載された文面を単語や文節ごとに切り分けます。本作ではピアノの教法「チェルニー第30番」を使用し、切り離された文言を組み合わせて多様なバリエーションで作文し、そうして生み出された一見意味をなさないテキストをタイトルに設定し、絵画を制作します。「作品が出来あがってからタイトルを付ける」という一般的な名付けの主従関係を反転させる試みです。

 

I collect written materials produced by others in my everyday surroundings—such as English vocabulary books, electric fan manuals, and piano method books—and fragment their text into individual words and phrases. In this work, I use Czerny’s 30 Studies as my source material, recombining the extracted fragments into diverse variations of sentences. The resulting texts, which appear at first glance to be meaningless, are then assigned as titles, from which I create paintings.

Through this process, I attempt to invert the conventional hierarchy of naming, in which a title is typically given after a work is completed, by allowing the title to precede and guide the creation of the artwork.
