1960年代にフランスで結成された言語実験グループ「ウリポ（Oulipo）」の制作原理に着目した作品。ウリポの特徴として、言語の自己増殖的な振る舞いが挙げられます。例えば、特定の文字を用いずに文章を書く「リポグラム」や、ラテン方陣を利用した執筆方法など、数学的思考に触発された実験的な取り組みが多数行われました。

なかでも、元のテキストの名詞（S）を辞書で引き、その名詞の7項目後に掲載された別の名詞に置き換える〈S＋7〉の手法（語彙的平行移動）に関心を寄せ、このプロットを絵画で再構成することを試みます。例えば、 「アメリカに引っ越す」という元のテキストの中の各名詞を『広辞苑第四版』で引き、それぞれ7項目後の名詞に置き換えると「アーモンドに引っ籠る」というまったく異なるテキストが立ち現れます。ウリポの思想の根幹でもある「テキストの自己増殖」を視覚化し、新たな絵画表現の可能性を探ります。

This work focuses on the creative principles of Oulipo, a language experiment group formed in France in the 1960s. One of Oulipo’s key characteristics is the self-generative behavior of language. Their practice includes experimental methods inspired by mathematical thinking, such as lipograms (writing without specific letters) and compositional techniques using structures like Latin squares.

In particular, this work draws on the S+7 method (lexical shift), in which each noun in a source text is looked up in a dictionary and replaced with the noun listed seven entries later. This procedure is reinterpreted through painting. For example, when the nouns in the sentence “moving to America” are replaced using this method with the Kōjien (4th edition), it produces the entirely different phrase “shutting oneself in with almonds.”

By using this approach, the work visualizes the “self-proliferation of text,” a central concept in Oulipo, and explores new possibilities for painting.​
